Key Insights of the Leading Run-Scorers in 2025 Across Three International Formats

As we near the end of the year, Indian Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill tops the 2025 leading run-scorers chart across all formats.

Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera brought up the first century of 2025, scoring a match-winning 101 off 46 balls against New Zealand in a T20I. With that, Perera became only the third Sri Lankan to score a T20I century.

A few days later, South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton smashed the first double century of the year — 259 in the New Year Test against Pakistan.

The highest score of 2025 belongs to Wiaan Mulder (South Africa), who made a massive 367* against Zimbabwe in July. (Find out the top ten individual Test scores of the year here.)

By the end of January, Steven Smith reached the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket, joining an elite group of four Australian batters to achieve the milestone. During the Sri Lanka tour, Smith also raised his 35th and 36th Test hundreds, drawing level with Rahul Dravid.

Among batters with 1,000+ runs across all formats in 2025, Joe Root has the best average — in fact, he’s the only one with an average above 60 — while Austria’s Karanbir Singh leads the strike-rate charts. The Austrian all-rounder also tops the list for most runs in T20Is in 2025.

Karanbir has also become the first cricketer to hit 100+ sixes in a calendar year in both T20Is and across formats.

So far, three batters have made memorable debuts this year:

• Afghanistan’s Ismat Alam and Australia’s Josh Inglis began their Test careers with centuries each.
• South Africa’s Matthew Breetzke marked his ODI debut with a brilliant 150-run knock.
